Senior Accountant
Rain Technologies Inc. is searching for a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll and Accounts Payable (AP) Accountant. This hybrid role is crucial for ensuring the accurate and timely management of the company’s payroll function and accounts payable cycle. The ideal candidate will apply strong accounting principles, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and maintain the integrity and confidentiality of all financial data across both functions.
What you’ll do
Payroll Processing (Approximately 60% of Time)
- Processing: Process bi-weekly/semi-monthly payroll for all salaried and hourly employees using the company's payroll software ([Specify Software if known, e.g., ADP, Paychex]).
- Compliance & Deductions: Ensure proper calculation of wages, tax withholdings, deductions, and garnishments, adhering to federal, state, and local tax laws (multi-state experience preferred).
- Reporting: Prepare payroll journal entries for the General Ledger and reconcile all payroll-related accounts (e.g., taxes, benefits) monthly.
- Year-End: Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 and 1099 preparation and distribution.
- Support: Serve as the primary contact for employee inquiries regarding pay and deductions, maintaining strict confidentiality.
Accounts Payable (AP) Management (Approximately 40% of Time)
- Invoice Processing: Manage the full cycle of accounts payable, including receiving, coding, verifying, and processing a high volume of vendor invoices and expense reports for payment.
- Payment Execution: Prepare and execute weekly payment runs (checks, ACH, wire transfers) ensuring timely and accurate disbursement.
- Vendor Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date vendor records, including contact information and required documentation (e.g., W-9 forms).
- Reconciliation: Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies in billing or payments.
- Accruals: Assist with month-end closing activities related to AP, including the preparation of accruals for unbilled invoices.
General Accounting & Compliance
- Maintain organized and confidential records for both payroll and AP.
- Assist the Controller/Accounting Manager with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and support.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies across both functional areas.
Who you are
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years of progressive experience handling both payroll processing and accounts payable functions.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in payroll software systems (UKG and DEEL preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of General Ledger accounting systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) for reporting and analysis.
- Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws and payroll tax regulations.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (GAAP) related to AP and payroll accruals/journal entries.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional organizational skills and rigorous attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- High degree of professionalism and integrity for handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Preferred (but not required):
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC).
- Experience with automated AP systems or invoice processing software.

Compensation:
$110,000-$130,000
Note this is a range and we take in a variety of factors when determining total compensation for the position.
